This was a submission for the "Different Strokes from Different Folks" blog. The photo I worked from was very high contrast with little color. The challenge was a bit daunting..... but it's always fun when you are pleasantly surprised by the outcome!
Check out a relatively new blog.... differentstrokesfromdifferentfolks.blogspot.com It is facilitated by Karin Jurick (see her website link under "my favorites"). Every week she posts a new challenge. It is fun to see different interpretations of the same material.
This weeks post was painted upside down to help focus on shapes/value, not things. Very useful!
Since time has been of the essence lately, I've been experimenting with a new medium (for me), pastels. I love the immediacy of pastels, their pure pigment, and the layering options they afford. Stay tuned for more...
I earned a BA degree from UCLA in 1994. These days, I find my small paintings to be the best form of "continuing education". Paintings will appear "almost daily" but, at this point, will rarely be larger then 9x12 because of time constraints and because life gets in the way. By committing to this blog, I hope to start a visual history, charting my own artistic development.
If you are interested in purchasing one of my paintings, please e-mail me at shishesid@cableone.net. Paintings come safely packaged and ready to frame or to simply display on a small easel. Just remember, colors might vary a bit due to my scanner and your monitor. In the meantime, feel free to leave comments. I'd love to hear from you!
